A man suspected in the weekend killing of a woman in Kansas ran away to Texas but could not escape the law.
In response to a request for assistance from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the police department in Lyons, Kansas, Baytown Police and Texas Rangers captured Armando Mosqueda, 35, in the parking lot of the Baytown WalMart about 8 p.m. Sunday.
Mosqueda was wanted in connection with the murder of 31-year-old Jeannie Jacobson.
The victim and the suspect had a relationship that Lyons Police Chief Chris Detmer described as “troubled.” Jacobson, a popular convenience store clerk in the small town of just 3,800 residents, had recently filed a restraining order against Mosqueda, which made him a prime suspect when Jacobsen’s body was Sunday morning.
Detmer would not say how Jacobsen was killed, but said that she and the suspect had dated until the relationship went sour. Mosqueda was on parole for aggravated battery at the time of the murder, authorities said.
Jacobson attended a Halloween party Saturday night, but left early to go home, according to her friends. On Sunday morning, her estranged husband and young son went to her house and found the front door had been kicked in. They found her dead inside
Because of that restraining order and statements made by Jacobsens’ friends, Kansas authorities quickly zeroed in on Mosqueda as a possible suspect and learned that he had family in Baytown. Texas Rangers and Baytown police located Mosqueda in the WalMart parking lot about 8 p.m. Sunday and took him into custody without incident. Detmer said that Mosqueda is currently in the Baytown Police Department jail, awaiting extradition proceedings that will send him back to Kansas.
